Custom Walkway Engineering

Elevated routes,
built for daily traffic.

Elevated routes,built for daily traffic.

Custom aluminium walkways engineered for roof access, plant decks, elevated maintenance corridors and any other route where workers need to move safely above ground level. Modular runs and bespoke configurations both available, selection depends on span, traffic volume and asset accessibility constraints.

AS 1657 compliance is the baseline for every walkway we deliver. Anti-slip checker-plate deck, integrated kick-plate, structural-grade aluminium handrails, and where required transition modules for stair drops, level changes or asset entry points. Walkways are typically delivered flat-packed to keep freight costs manageable and assembled on-site with hand tools.

Whether the project is a single roof-access run or a multi-storey plant deck rollout, the same in-house team designs, fabricates and dispatches the build from our Carrum Downs, VIC facility under an ISO 9001:2015 quality management system.

How We Engineer Your Walkway

Five steps from site survey to commissioning.

01

Route & Span Survey

Walkway routes are mapped to your roof, deck or building infrastructure. Spans, support points and any obstacle bridging requirements are documented before design begins.

02

Modular vs Bespoke Decision

Standard modular runs are economical for straight routes. Bespoke geometry kicks in when the path has level changes, multiple branches or unusual span requirements.

03

Engineering & Compliance

AS 1657 baseline plus any additional WHS or site-specific compliance overlays. Engineering drawings issued with load calculations and routing diagrams.

04

In-house Fabrication

Aluminium walkway components fabricated in our Carrum Downs, VIC facility under ISO 9001:2015. Anti-slip deck, kick-plate and handrail assemblies all done in-house.

05

Flat-Pack Delivery & Install

Walkway sections delivered flat-packed for cost-effective freight. On-site assembly with hand tools, installation guides and engineering certificates included.

Frequently Asked Questions

What applications use custom aluminium walkway systems?

Custom walkways are used for roof access routes over fragile or obstructed surfaces, elevated maintenance corridors across plant and processing facilities, multi-level deck connections in manufacturing and warehouse environments, and access routes to remote equipment on elevated structures. Any elevated route where workers need to move safely and repeatedly is a walkway application.

What is the difference between a modular and a bespoke walkway?

A modular walkway uses standard-dimension sections that connect to form a route. It is economical for straight, unobstructed spans. A bespoke walkway is designed to fit a specific geometry, level changes, branching routes, obstacle bridging, transitions to stairs or ladders, or unusual span dimensions. The selection is made during the design phase based on your route and site constraints.

What load rating do custom walkway systems carry?

AS 1657 walkways are designed to the 2.5 kPa uniform distributed load standard as a minimum. Higher load ratings are available where machinery movement or elevated storage is part of the walkway function. Load requirements are confirmed during the survey and engineering phase and documented in the compliance plate.

Can custom walkways include stair access, ladders and level changes?

Yes. Custom walkway systems are typically engineered as complete access routes rather than isolated spans. Stair access, ladder drops, transition modules for level changes and junction points for branching routes are all designed within the same project. Integration with existing plant infrastructure is considered at the route survey stage.

What documentation is provided with a custom walkway system?

Every custom walkway ships with engineering drawings, load calculation documentation, compliance plate certification to AS 1657 under ISO 9001:2015, assembly guides for flat-pack delivery, and a Lifetime Structural Warranty covering the structural integrity of all fabricated components.
