Steel fabrication is steel that has been formed, welded or cast into a particular shape or structure. Although steel can be found everywhere from skyscrapers to steel wool, steel fabrication refers to shaping steel to meet specific needs, whether those needs are as big as a bridge or as small as a bracket.
Good steel fabrication is welded steel that has been formed and tested to meet specific structural requirements. Bad steel fabrication involves steel that has not been heat-treated or has not been tested for strength. To ensure the steel is strong enough, it should be tested by an accredited lab before use in manufacturing.
You can tell quality work from poor work by looking at the finish: the steel should not bend or break easily, there should be no cracks, formed seams should align properly, and there should be no gaps between joined pieces.

What steel fabrication services does Star Aluminium offer?
Star Aluminium provides custom steel fabrication for structural, height access and industrial applications. This includes welded steel frames, structural brackets, custom grating and composite aluminium-steel assemblies. All work is completed in-house to ISO 9001:2015.
What steel grades and structural profiles do you work with?
We fabricate from mild steel, high-strength steel and galvanised sections. Structural profiles include RHS, SHS, channel, angle and flat plate. Material grade is selected based on the structural requirement, load rating and environment specified in the brief.
Do you provide certified welding for structural steel applications?
Yes. Welding is performed to AS/NZS 1554 standards where required. Weld inspection and certification are available for structural applications that require third-party sign-off or registration.
Can you fabricate custom sizes not available in standard steel sections?
Yes. We fabricate components to custom sizes, project specifications and tight tolerances. This includes custom brackets, connection plates, stair stringers and structural frames that cannot be sourced from standard stock sections.
What warranty applies to steel fabrication work?
All Star Aluminium fabricated products carry a Lifetime Structural Warranty. Steel components are warranted for structural integrity when installed and maintained within the design load parameters and operating environment.
