Safety Overview

Compliance is engineered
in, not bolted on.

Compliance is engineeredin, not bolted on.

Working at height is one of the highest-risk activities on industrial and commercial sites. Access equipment that meets compliance requirements at the time of delivery still needs to be maintained, inspected and used correctly across its working life to keep that compliance position intact. The obligations sit with the site or business operating the equipment, and clear guidance on what to check, when, and what to do when something is found is part of how Star Aluminium supports its customers.

Every standard Star Aluminium product is manufactured to Australian Standards including AS 1657 (Fixed Platforms, Walkways, Stairways and Ladders), AS/NZS 1892.1 (Portable Ladders), and aligns with the Work Health and Safety (WHS) framework that governs work-at-height obligations in Australia. The manufacturing process is audited under ISO 9001:2015, providing a documented chain from raw material through to compliance plate. Each unit leaves the facility with a compliance plate, engineering certification and a Lifetime Structural Warranty backing those credentials.

For installed equipment in regular use, monthly inspections are recommended. The inspection covers platform surfaces, weld points, structural connections and visible signs of damage or corrosion. Any equipment found to have structural damage during inspection should be marked out of service and Star Aluminium contacted before being returned to use. The in-house support team can advise on assessment, repair or replacement.

Safety Standards & Guidance

Four pillars of safe operation across the Star Aluminium product range.

01

AS/NZS Compliance

All standard products are manufactured to AS 1657, AS/NZS 1892.1 and related Australian Standards. Compliance plates fitted before dispatch document the standards each unit was built against.

02

WHS Alignment

Equipment design and supporting documentation align with the Work Health and Safety framework that governs work-at-height obligations across Australian jurisdictions.

03

Monthly Inspection

Inspect every working platform monthly. Check the deck surface, weld points, guardrails and fixings for damage or corrosion. Mark equipment "out of service" if damage is found.

04

Damage Response

Do not return damaged equipment to service without assessment. Contact Star Aluminium support with photos and order details, the team will advise on repair, replacement parts or full unit assessment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Australian Standards apply to aluminium access equipment?

AS 1657 (Fixed platforms, walkways, stairways and ladders) and AS 1418 series govern the design, manufacture and installation of industrial access equipment in Australia. All Star Aluminium standard products are manufactured in compliance with these Standards, with a compliance plate supplied on every unit.

How often should access equipment be inspected?

For high-use equipment, a documented inspection every six months is the minimum recommended interval. Equipment should also be inspected immediately following any incident, significant load event or modification. Contact Star Aluminium for inspection guidance specific to your product and application.

What records should be kept for WHS compliance?

Site managers should maintain a register of access equipment in use, including purchase records, compliance plate details, inspection dates and outcomes, and any maintenance or repair history. Star Aluminium can provide compliance documentation including the ISO 9001:2015 certificate on request.

What should I do if access equipment is damaged or corroded?

Remove the equipment from service immediately and contact Star Aluminium before returning it to use. Do not attempt structural repairs without assessment. Our team can advise on whether repair, component replacement or decommissioning is appropriate based on the type and extent of the damage.

Does Star Aluminium provide compliance documentation for tenders?

Yes. Supporting documentation including the ISO 9001:2015 quality management certificate and compliance details for specific products are available on request. Contact the team with your submission requirements to confirm what documentation can be provided.
